Pulse audio is still buggy in fedora 9, so don’t use it. Problems encountered,
* No simultaneous access to the dsp device
* When switching from X to tty background audio crashes
So remove pulse audio and fall back to ALSA,
yum remove pulseaudio alsa-plugins-pulseaudio
